Lahore: Customs Intelligence seizes illegally imported items, vehicles worth Rs 445 million

LAHORE: The Customs Directorate of Investigation and Intelligence Lahore Anti-Smuggling Organisation has confiscated smuggled items worth Rs 445 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 268 million and registered 98 cases during first nine months of current fiscal year 2014-15.

As per detail, the Customs I&I Lahore Anti-Smuggling wing conducted various operations following the instruction Director General Customs I&I Lutfullah Virk to curb the menace of smuggling.

ASO Lahore impounded 12 vehicles including 310,555 yards of cloth, 257 tyres & tubes, auto parts worth Rs 8.26 million, 725 gallons of motor oil, 4400 cartons of cigarettes, 2225 units of electronic goods, 213 blankets, 1443 kg pan parags and zafrani patti, 120, 000 kg gutka of various brands, Rs 240 million miscellaneous items including foreign made cosmetics, plastic dana Irania made tiles and other such items worth 240 million.

Anti-Smuggling wing seized items worth Rs 76 million involving duty and taxes of Rs 51 million in July, while in August smuggle goods worth Rs 93 million involving taxes of Rs 41 million were confiscated.

The I&I Customs Lahore seized contraband item worth Rs 14 million involving duty/taxes of Rs 14 million during September while in October the ASO team confiscated articles and vehicles worth Rs 61 million involving duty/taxes worth Rs 32 million.

Similarly, the Directorate of I&I Customs Lahore seized smuggled goods and articles worth Rs 11 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 7 million in November while the directorate seized illegal imported goods worth Rs 18 million involving duty/taxes worth Rs 17 million during December.

Customs ASO Lahore Additional Director Mohsin Rafique and Superintendents Nasir Minhas and Manawar conducted successful operations to foil the smuggling bids.
