CBP officers seize cocaine, heroin worth $0.5m at Eagle Pass Port of Entry

TEXAS:  U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry seized nearly half a million dollars worth of narcotics in two unrelated enforcement efforts.CBP officers discovered 10 packages of cocaine in the backseat of a 2002 Ford F-250.

“These interceptions of dangerous drugs truly exemplify the teamwork of the officers working at our port,” said Port Director John Brandt, Eagle Pass Port of Entry. “Our officers employed a combination of observational skills and high tech tools to keep these narcotic loads from entering the country.”

At approximately 2:20 p.m., CBP officers, at Eagle Pass International Bridge I, inspected a 2004 Cadillac CTS sedan as it arrived in the United States from Mexico. Using a non-intrusive imaging system, officers discovered 12 packages of brown heroin hidden in the trunk of the vehicle. Officers seized a total of 13.10 pounds of brown heroin worth an estimated $297,103.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from San Antonio, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for federal prosecution.

In a separate incident later that evening, CBP officers, at Camino Real International Bridge, inspected a 2002 Ford F-250 truck as it arrived in the United States from Mexico at approximately 9:45 p.m. Using a non-intrusive imaging system for inspection, CBP officers discovered 10 packages of cocaine in the backseat area. Officers seized a total of 25.18 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $491,268.

The driver, a 28-year-old man from Eagle Pass, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for federal prosecution.

The Office of Field Operations is the primary organization within U.S. Customs and Border Protection tasked with an anti-terrorism mission at our nation’s ports. CBP officers screen all people, vehicles and goods entering the United States while facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel. Their mission also includes carrying out border-related duties, including narcotics interdiction, enforcing immigration and trade laws, and protecting the nation’s food supply and agriculture industry from pests and diseases.
