GEORGIA: The Georgia Chamber commends Governor Nathan Deal’s leadership for expanding dual enrollment educational opportunities by signing SB 2 and SB 132 into law today.  SB 2 will allow a high school student who has completed ninth and tenth grade requirements for coursework and assessments to enroll in a post-secondary institution (USG or TCSG) and work towards an associate’s degree, a technical college diploma, or a technical college certificate while counting that coursework towards high school graduation requirements.  SB 132 revises and updates regulations regarding dual enrollment options, giving students new opportunities to prepare for high demand jobs of the future by allowing them to “move on when ready” and pursue college coursework while still in high school.

“SB 2 and SB 132 will create new tools to address the many workforce needs of Georgia businesses.  By further aligning our K-12 education system with our university and technical college systems and allowing students to simultaneously access both, Georgia will be in a better position to remain economically competitive,” said Georgia Chamber president and CEO Chris Clark.  “The Georgia Chamber thanks Governor Deal, Lt. Governor Cagle and our General Assembly for enacting this legislation that will enhance our state’s workforce.”
