Jamaica desires to expand businesses with Cuba, Costa Rica

Kingston: The government of Jamaica aims to expand and diversify trade relations with Cuba and Costa Rica, having considered successful a recent visit of local entrepreneurs to these Latin American countries.

According to the Minister of Industry Anthony Hylton, working groups will be set with the neighboring Caribbean island in order to explore opportunities in the areas of trade, investment, tourism, finance and manufacturing.

Kingston’s government seeks to reach an association agreement between the special economic zones of Jamaica and Cuba, as well as renew the maritime and aviation agreements.

Additionally, he plans to create a Business Council between the two territories that will assist the development of bilateral ties based on mutual cooperation.

Regarding Costa Rica, Hylton said both countries signed a memorandum of understanding to complement the trade pact of the Central American country with the Caribbean Community, of which Jamaica is a full member.

The Minister stated that this document will optimize the commercial links, will facilitate cooperation and the exchange of business information.

Hylton headed a mission of 18 companies that visited Cuba and Costa Rica in recent weeks with the aim of exploring these markets and strengthen business relationships.
