LAREDO: Customs and Border Protection employees had some company at work!
Children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces of CBP employees went to the World Trade Bridge.
The agency had several stations laid out for children to experience what their parents do for a living. They feel it’s the best way to educate them, and even inspire them.
“They do work long hours, and wonder what mom or dad is doing while they are away from the house for the day”, says Port Director Joseph Misenhelter. “We’re very proud of our employees. So, it’s also to inspire them. There’s a lot of opportunities. Maybe they want to follow in their footsteps or pursue a career in government or law enforcement, and this gives them an idea of what they do.”
Children were able to go into the helicopter, see the Border Patrol boat and even shoot some pellet guns with the help of officers.
This was the sixth year this event is held.
