KARACHI: The importers with alleged connivance of customs authorities are importing banned items such as “used trucks” and “used mixture lorries”, it is learnt here.

According to details, the import of “used trucks” and “used mixture lorries” are banned as per Import Policy-2013, however; the importers, with the patronisation of customs authorities, are importing such vehicular equipments in the garb of “used concrete mixture truck” by joining those “used trucks” with “used mixture lorries” through a U-bolt and causing losses to the national exchequer.

The reliable sources informed Customs Today that the consignments of “used truck” and “used mixture lorry” are being cleared without any check in the garb of “used concrete mixture truck” from AICT, East Wharf and West Wharf at regular intervals.

The sources further revealed that several contravention reports have already formed against the importers who are involved in importing the ban items, but the clearance of “used truck” and “used mixture lorry” in the garb of “used concrete mixture truck” is still continued without any check.

Responding to a query, the sources said that the clearance of said ban items are being continued with the patronization of the customs officials, as despite ban the violation of Import Policy-2013 is being continued.
