Karachi: Customs authorities submit comments in SHC on importers appeals

KARACHI: Customs adjudication authorities have submitted para-wise comments in Sindh High Court on the appeals filed by M/s. Topsun Chemical Enterprises, M/s. Care International, M/s. Pak Farming Care and M/s.PFC International against the registration of FIR by Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement (East) on the charges of tampering Goods Descriptions. The SHC earlier asked the Customs to submit para-wise comments on May 13.

Later the Customs adjudication comments were provided to the counsels of the petitioners for their reply.

The Sindh High Court has adjourned the hearing till May 26, 2015. It may be mentioned here that four identical petitions were filed by the counsels of the above mentioned importers on which the Sindh High Court (SHC) allowed them to file Goods Description (GD) afresh and has also directed the MCC-Appraisement (East) to de-block their National Tax Number (NTN) and user IDs to facilitate the filing of GDs afresh.

It may be mentioned here that FIRs were lodged against three importers for violating Section 16, 32, 32A &79 of the Customs Act, 1969 and Section 3(1) of the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, 1950 punishable under clause 9, 14, 14A & 46 of Section 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969.
