LAHORE: The Punjab Rangers have shot dead one smuggler while another managed to escape on Saturday morning at Wahga Border. After receiving information, a search party observed two smugglers trying to cross border from India. Rangers asked them to stop but they opened firing. In retaliated fire, one smuggler was killed on the spot while the other managed to escape. Contraband items were recovered at the site. Detailed investigation is underway.
According to Punjab Rangers spokesman two persons were trying to smuggle Indian alcohol to Pakistan through Wahaga sector while they were caught by the Rangers. A Punjab ranger has shifted the smuggler dead body to hospital for postmortem. Name and residence of the smuggler is not still unidentified.
Punjab Rangers has recovered number of bottles of India alcohol, Indian currency and mobile phones from the scene. Smuggling of Indian made alcohol is common on the border of two countries as alcohol is not easily available in Pakistan.
