Pakistan resumes tomato import from India after one month suspension

LAHORE: Pakistan had suspended import of tomatoes from India through Wahaga Border because it was not up to the standards. Indian tomatoes were found unhygienic and it was not suitable for human health.

Trade of tomatoes through Wagha was suspended because of poor quality of India vegetables.  Now after the break of one month Pakistan once again has started import of tomatoes and in first 15 days of May 2015 total import of tomatoes through Wahga Border stands at Rs 17 million.

Customs Today sources said import of tomatoes from India has started after the approval of Federal Government. This step has taken keeping in view that Ramzan is coming and suspension of tomatoes from India can create shortage in local markets.  In first fifteen days of May Pakistan has imported 357842 Kilo grams of tomatoes from India and its worth is Rs 17 million.
