Pakistan’s imports from India decrease in first 15 days of May

LAHORE: Pakistan’s imports from Indian side decreased to Rs 388 million in 15 days of the May 2015, as compared to Rs 591 million in the last 15 days of April.

In the last 15 days of March, the imports stood at Rs 1.8 billion.

Import of tomatoes was suspended in April, which resumed on May 10. In five days, Pakistan has imported tomatoes worth Rs 17 million through Wagha.

As per the details available with Customs Today, Pakistan imported garlic, polyethylene, cotton, poly propylene, carbon dioxide, rolling machinery and other items from India.

Pakistan also imported soya and other relevant products from India. The total value of imported soya or its products stands at Rs 219 million. Import of soya and it products has increased in these 15 days as compared to April, when the imports stood at Rs 14 million in the second half.

Pakistan imported polyethylene, poly propylene and items like synthetic material worth Rs 51 million. Pakistan also imported cotton, yarn and other relevant items from India worth in millions, and collected huge income and sales tax. Pakistan has imported cotton yarn worth Rs 36 million in the first 15 days of May.

Beside all of this, Pakistan imported carbon dioxide, machinery and a number of other items from India through the Wagha border trade route.

As a whole, Pakistan imported goods worth Rs 388 million from India from May 1 to May 15.
