Appraising Intelligence Branch temporarily halts implementation of recovery procedure in 43 cases

KARACHI: Officials of the Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Appraisement (West) have not initiated another phase of revenue recovery due to some missing links and lacunae in legal proceedings, it is learnt here.

The sources informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned of AIB/R&D Branch on the directives of Collector-MCC Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem had started scrutinising the past clearance data of imported consignments and found 43 cases of short revenue recovery in violation of different SROs.

However, the sources further confirmed that the Additional Collector ADC Nayyar Shafiq, in consultation with Collector Muhammad Saleem, has asked the officials concerned of AIB/R&D to fulfill the legal requirements in scrutinising the clearance data first and then implement the revenue recovery procedure.

Replying to a query, the sources could not able to inform about the lacunas in carrying out legal proceedings against the importers, who found evading the legitimate duty/taxes. However; they managed to state that the revenue recovery process is being halted temporarily.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB/R&D) of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Appraisement (West) while following the directives of Collector Muhammad Saleem was initiated another phase of revenue recovery.

They have detected the violation of SRO1125/2011, SRO565 and SRO575 and others while scrutinising the past clearance data of the imported consignments and detected millions of rupees short revenue recovery in violation of aforementioned SROs in importation of various consignments.
