Karachi: Customs Intelligence seizes smuggled Iranian juice worth Rs 4 million

KARACHI: Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Karachi raided a gowdown-cum-dumping place near New Truck Stand, Maripur Road, during an operation between the midnight of 16th and 17th of May and seized a huge quantity of smuggled Iranian juice worth over Rs 4 million.

According to Director Intelligence and Investigation Muhammad Asif Marghoob Siddiqui, the raid was conducted on an authentic information that smuggled goods had been stored in different godowns and dumping places.

Acting on the information, a team of intelligence officers was constituted under the supervision of Superintendent Rafat Hussain, including SIO, Muhammad Aslam, IOs, Muhammad Akmal Hashmi, Qasim Alvi, Meraj Alvi and Munawar Ali etc.

The team raided a dumping place and recovered a huge quantity of smuggled Irani Rani juice.

During initial inquiry manager of the place could not produce legal import documents of the goods. The consignment consisting of 5370 cartons of Rani fruit Juice smuggled from Iran was taken into custody.

Total quantity of recovered Juice cans was 1,28,880 which was 30970 in litters in weight. A person involved in this illegal act was also arrested from the spot.

Approximate market value of the seized goods amounted to the tune of Rs. 40 lacs.  According to Director Customs Intelligence, Asif Marghoob Siddiqui, an FIR has been lodged and a challan is being submitted in the Court of Special Judge Customs.

Seizure Report of case is being prepared for submission to the relevant adjudicating authority.

Director I&I further told this scribe that the operation was conducted on the instructions of Director General Intelligence & Investigation Mr. Lutfullah Virk in line with the anti-smuggling strategy of FBR which is producing outstanding results in the region.
