TOKYO: Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Insurance, Marine Transport and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.80%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (TOKYO:8750), which rose 10.57% or 210.0 points to trade at 2197.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (TOKYO:5802) added 7.58% or 130.0 points to end at 1845.0 and T&D Holdings, Inc. (TOKYO:8795) was up 5.58% or 94.0 points to 1777.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sharp Corp. (TOKYO:6753), which fell 9.14% or 17.0 points to trade at 169.0 at the close. Dentsu Inc. (TOKYO:4324) declined 3.90% or 240.0 points to end at 5920.0 and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4502) was down 2.55% or 159.0 points to 6067.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 442 to 153.

(TOKYO:6753) fell to 52-week lows; losing 9.14% or 17.0 to 169.0. Shares in Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (TOKYO:5802) rose to 3-years highs; rising 7.58% or 130.0 to 1845.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.12% to 18.44.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 1.28% or 0.78 to $61.31 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.91% or 0.60 to hit $67.42 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.29% or 3.60 to trade at $1228.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.35% to 119.64, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 136.82.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 93.41.
