Karachi: FIA’s probe against Axact in fake degrees scam continues

KARACHI: The Corporate Crime Cell (CCC) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday continued its investigation in fake degrees scam surfaced against M/s Axact.

According to details, a team of FIA has sealed the IT department of M/s Axact located in Defense area of Karachi and has taken all the relevant data into its custody.

Sources informed Customs Today that the FIA has also recommended to put the name of Chief Executive Officer of M/s Axact Company, Shaoib Ahmed Shaikh, and 10 directors of different offices located across the country on Exit Control List (ECL).

The sources further informed that the authorities concerned of Corporate Crime Cell and Cyber Crime are jointly investigating the matter and take around 12 employees of M/s Axact into custody for investigation.

The FIA authorities have also served the notice to CEO M/s Axact Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh to join the investigations; adding that all the bank accounts of M/s Axact have also been freeze.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani has also directed the Standing Committee on Information Technology to submit its report on the said scam in a month in Senate.

The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has made it clear that that authorities concerned are conducting transparent and fair inquiry into the said matter and the government would unveil the facts after completing the inquiry before the nation.

Meanwhile, MQM chief Altaf Hussain has demanded Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif conduct a high level inquiry into the said case and arrest all executive level officials of M/s Axact if they found guilty in the faked degree scam unveiled by a foreign media in its publication.

Hussain further said that if the M/s Axact found guilty into the case, then it committed treason and the government authorities should file case against the management of M/s Axact according to Article-6 of the Constitution and award exemplary punishment to those who involved in such heinous crime.
