Mobile phone smuggling: Customs tribunal hears appeal against customs’ decision

LAHORE: Customs Appellant Tribunal bench-I Lahore heard an appeal pertaining to the illegal import of 2,247 mobile phones, which was lodged against the decision of the Customs Adjudication.

Earlier, an appellant, Javaid Iqbal moved bench-II of the tribunal against the decision of customs where Member Technical Irfan Tariq is appointed who has already decided the said case when he was a collector. Therefore, the appellant filed the appeal before the bench-I for further proceedings.

As per details, Customs Intelligence and Investigation had seized the smuggled cell phones of various brands including Apple, Samsung, HTC, Sony, Nokia, Black Berry and other accessories, which were recovered from the possession of Javaid Iqbal.

After making the seizure report, the case was moved to Customs collector who decided the case in favour of the customs and now, the accused has registered an appeal against the decision in Customs Appellant Tribunal Lahore.
