LAHORE: Delays in assessment and clearance of imported goods have become very serious issue not only at Port Qasim but also in other ports of the country. Besides, the importers are made so hapless that they  have  to go every length to get their items  assessed on actual prices and cleared timely.

These views were expressed by Lahore Anjmun-e- Tajran Importers Association chairman and Lahore Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee member Muhammad Haroon while talking to Customs Today here.

“Importers and exporters have to face so many hurdles in getting their goods cleared from the customs authorities at the ports,” he added.

On the other hand when  clearance and examination of consignments are unduly delayed for which the importers had to face inflated per unit cost which do not let the importers to compete the market forces and earn profits eventually they have to face heavy losses, Haroon explained.

He suggested that the Customs authorities should keep in view the track record of the genuine importers and exporters.

Haroon urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman and member customs to take stock of the unwarranted delays of clearance and assessment at the ports.

If the businessmen will not be provided congenial atmosphere ease for doing business the country cannot attain sustainable economic growth and development,  concluded Haroon.
