Appraising Intelligence Branch recovers Rs 8.5 million during last week

KARACHI: The officials concerned of Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB/R&D) have recovered around Rs 8.5 million during the last week on the pretext of imperfect application of incorrect PCT heading, description and HS Code in the imported consignments, it is learnt here.

Sources told Customs Today that AIB officials, while following the directives of Collector-MCC Appraisement-West Muhammad Saleem and under the supervision of Additional Collector (ADC) Nayyer Shafiq, have expedited its pace of revenue recovery and served show cause notices to unscrupulous elements who imported different consignments while concealing the real values and evaded duty/taxes in terms of customs duty, sales tax and income tax.

The sources further revealed that the Group-IV of MCC-Appraisement West has also geared up for revenue recovery of the evaded duty/taxes and recently detected a short realization of revenue amounting millions of rupees in imported consignment of fabric/yarn.

The sources further said that the major revenue recovery cases have been found in violation of SROs 1125, 492, 565 and 575; adding that the authorities concerned of the AIB/R&D were further scrutinizing the past import data of the unscrupulous elements.

Replying to a query, the sources informed this scribe that authorities concerned of AIB/R&D of the Collectorate has already prepared a list of some unscrupulous elements with the help of past clearance of the imported consignments, who often involved in evaded duty/taxes.

Responding to another query, the sources further revealed that the authorities concerned of the Collectorate will soon unveil the said list consists of tax evaders.
