Lawyers boycott court proceedings, observe strike against Daska incident

LAHORE: Lawyers across the country observe strike and took out rallies to condemn the killing of two lawyers by police  in Daska on Monday.

At the Lahore Customs Court and other federal courts, lawyers boycotted the proceedings on the appeal of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).

Lawyers also observed strike in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, where black flags were hoisted outside the bar rooms and resolutions condemning the police brutality were also passed by the associations of various bar councils .

The legal fraternity has demanded that the government should bring the killers to justice. In Gujranwala, nearly 2,500 prisoners could not be presented before courts on the day of hearing of their cases due to ongoing strike by the lawyers.

Policemen deployed at courts have been directed to wear plain clothes, while cops present at entry and exit points of the sessions court have been asked to return to Police Lines. Lawyers are also protesting in Jhang, Sargodha, Khushab, Toba Tek Singh, Gujrat, and Jhelum, Narowal, Shakargarh and other cities of Punjab.
