LDFA exhibition from 30th: Milk consumption increasing than production, says SBoI director

KARACHI: The annual consumption of milk in Pakistan has increased by 10-20 per cent, while the milk production is growing only 4 per cent per annum.

Sindh Board of Investment Director Abrar Sheikh said this while briefing the media about the livestock, dairy, fisheries, poultry, agriculture exhibition & seminar (LDFA-2015), which will be held at Expo Centre Karachi from May 30 to 31st.

He said that despite being the world’s largest milk producing country, about 40,000 tons of dry milk is being imported into Pakistan annually, equivalent to 320,000 tons of fresh liquid milk. He added that the Sindh government is committed to promote dairy sector not only for food security but also to improve value addition and value chain.

He said that the last four LDFAs cumulatively materialised business commercial deals amounting to Rs 1 billion and boosted up the agrarian economy of Sindh.

This year, LDFA is expected to attract a lot more participants and visitors including diplomats, foreign and domestic businessmen and investors, banking and investment professionals, representatives of federal and provincial government ministries and departments.

Mehboob ul Haq Managing Director, Sindh Enterprise Development Fund, Muhammad Riazuddin DG SBI and representatives of other govt departments were also present on the occasion.
