Compiled copy of ‘Customs Clearance Manuel’ sent to Collector Saleem for review

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement-East, Appraisement-West and Port Muhammad Bin Qasim have sent a compiled copy of “Customs Clearance Manual” to the committee head Collector Appraisement-West Muhammad Saleem for reviewing.

Sources informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned of field formation collectorates, after finalising their drafts and recommendations regarding the “Customs Clearance Manual”, have forwarded those to the committee head at the departmental level.

The sources further revealed that Collector Muhammad Saleem after reviewing all those recommendations would send those to the authorities concerned for preparing a final draft.

“A single orientation is being prepared by the Committee head on Customs Clearance Manual after reviewing the proposals sent by all field formation Collectorates”, sources added.

Replying to a query, sources said that the formulation of “Customs Clearance Manual” was indeed a lengthy exercise and it would take a time to finalize. However, the Customs authorities are likely to give a final touch to the manual after budget-2015-16.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Chief Collector Appraisement-South Nasir Masroor Ahmed in the November, 2014 had given the task to the Customs officers of the field formation with a view to formulating the Customs Clearance Manuel and appointed Collector Appraisement-West, Muhammad Saleem as a focal person to head and look after the progress in this regard.

Furthermore, the authorities concerned of all three field formation Collectorates has held several meeting in connection with evolving Customs Clearance Manuel afterwards in order to give it a final touch for execution.

It may also be mentioned here that the Chief Collector Appraisement-South Nasir Masroor Ahmed has already asked the authorities concerned of Pakistan Customs to ensure swift completion of Customs Manuel in stipulated timeframe.

However; after passing six months of time, the authorities concerned of all three field formation collectorates are still working on the said project.
