NEW YORK: Authorities say they’ve broken up a prolific New York City-based heroin ring after following leads that emerged after a fatal overdose in the Hudson Valley last fall.
City Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan said here the other day that five people were arrested as authorities raided locations including a heroin mill in a Bronx apartment Thursday.
Prosecutors say some people threw heroin out the windows during the raid, and two defendants climbed out another window onto a fire escape in an unsuccessful attempt to escape.
Brennan says investigators found over 26 pounds of heroin, worth at least $5 million, in the various locations. She says they also found $115,000 in cash and two guns.
Authorities made a record-setting seizure of more than 150 pounds of heroin in New York earlier this month.
