NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were little changed after falling yesterday as gains in Wolseley Plc offset a decline in tobacco firms.
British American Tobacco Plc fell 1.7 percent after a Quebec court ruled that the company’s Canadian unit should pay about C$10.5 billion ($8.4 billion) in damages linked to class-action lawsuits. Wolseley posted its biggest jump since January after the distributor of building materials and bathroom supplies said third-quarter sales for ongoing businesses gained 17 percent.
The FTSE 100 Index slid 0.1 percent to 6,946.62 at 9:05 a.m. in London. The benchmark slipped 0.4 percent yesterday. The broader FTSE All-Share Index was little changed.
