PESHAWAR: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Director General Major General Khawar Hanif appreciated the performance of the force during the first quarter of the current year, which yielded record achievement, in which 259 cases were registered, 307 persons arrested along with seizure of 2.3 tonnes of opium, 2.9 tonnes of heroin, 16.8 tonnes of charas and 1kg cocaine.
He also lauds the present year’s ‘Poppy Eradication Campaign’, in which 1,216 acres of poppy crop was destroyed in the tribal areas. He valued previous month’s raids on those who supplied narcotics to students, but added that much more efforts were needed to curb the sales.
He appreciated the regular announcements of anti-drug massages at airports. He stressed the need to open a UAN number for maintaining direct contact with the public. The ANF director general apprised the participants of various steps taken by the government of Pakistan to increase the salaries of ANF employees.
Force commanders says that increase in pay was a well-appreciated step and would boost the morale of the force. The ANF DG said that it should also correspond to the ANF endeavors, which should reach beyond the call of duties.
He gave special directives to curb the narcotics trend at educational institutions. He urged the officials to launch special campaigns against drug suppliers and deal them with iron hand.
He also emphasised to have a vigilant check at airports. The ANF DG said that the force should remain firm to fulfill its professional obligations while remaining within the disciplined parameters as per law.
