ISLAMABAD: The race for the Chairman post of the Federal Board of Revenue has been taking curious turns with the senior officers throwing their hats into the ring.
After the FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa left his office few days ago on leave, there were huge curiosity that “who will be the next FBR Chairman” if Mr. Bajwa will transferred to some other department.
There were many names under consideration from FBR but chances of new Chairman from outside the FBR were also at hand. The FBR Senior Member Inland Revenue Policy Islamabad Shahid Hussain Asad who has been assigned the look-after charge of the post of FBR Chairman during the leave period of Tariq Bajwa, is a strong candidate for the Chairman post as he has favour of Ex Chairman Tariq Bajwa and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
Along many others, an FBR Member IR operation Muhammad Ashraf Khan has also been trying to get the chairman post.
Interestingly, PM secretariat, which has the ability to affect the appointment of chairman, was not supporting any of these candidates for chairman post and rumours were that they wanted a chairman from outside the FBR.
These speculations could only end after the FBR chairman next permanent appointment as the post is very important and government may take some time for decision.
