Multan: The discount facility on the token tax of motor cars by Excise and Taxation Department has ended during Eid holidays and now motor car owners have to pay double fee of token tax as fine.
The token tax of motor vehicles has been an important source of levy collection for Tax and Excise Department. It brings considerable revenue and has been a major source of income for the national exchequer.
According to the direction of Directorate General Excise and Taxation Punjab, those who will pay their token taxes before 31 July will get the discount of 10 percent. While those tax payer who were not paid their due token taxes before date will have to pay double fee as fine.
It was observed that large number of people in Multan avail this discount facility by paying token tax earlier than 31 July. However, the discount scheme was ended during the holidays of Eid-ul-Fitr and many car owners missed to pay the token fee due to Eid holidays. Token tax includes professional and income tax according to the engine capacity of the motor car.
