Cartels continue to manipulate potato price

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Finance Ishaq Dar has admitted that about 10 to 11 brokers had booked potato crop of last year and wanted to sell it on their own rates of Rs 150 per kg. He said that intelligence sources provided names and other details of these dealers involved in black marketing.

On question about possible action taken against these brokers Federal Minister said that in open market government could not bound anyone to sell its commodity on specific government rates so government import the commodity at zero rated. When asked about the names of these people involved in storage he said list containing details about these people is with Minister for National Food Security & Research Sikandar Hayat Boson.

However, Federal Minister still praised the government’s polices to decrease the soaring potatoes price in the country that kept around Rs 80 per kg, otherwise it should have been gone to Rs 150 per kg, he added.
