ISLAMABAD: The importers and exporters from Islamabad have started importing and clearing their consignments from Karachi port instead of Islamabad Dry Port due to sit-ins in the federal capital.

The traders of Islamabad have been more vulnerable to the effects of the present political disturbance than of any other city in the country. Many importers have cancelled their orders due to the present situation.

Zaman Hayat, a fabric importer, told Customs Today that many fabric importers had cancelled their import orders which would boost inflation and fabric prices will rise due to the shortage.

It is important to mention that despite the present crisis the employees of dry port have been present regularly at their duties but traders were not willing to take risk to import their consignments through Islamabad Dry Port. Instead they are now preferring Karachi port for import and export.
