SUMMIT: A six-month drug investigation wrapped up successfully with the arrest of a Georgia man who was in possession of an enormous supply of cocaine.
The Boyd County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Robert D. Armstrong, 42, of Atlanta, in the early hours of Monday morning in Summit.
Deputies seized 1/2 kilo of cocaine, 700 Oxycodone pills, 13 200 milliliter bottles of codeine, and nearly $11,500 in cash upon his arrest.
“That is the biggest bunch of cocaine that I have seen in one place in Boyd County since I have worked here and my drug people said the same thing,” said Boyd County Sheriff Bobby Jack Woods. “There may have been a bigger one, but none of us had ever seen it.”
The exhaustive investigation took time and lots of patience.
“We were looking for dealers instead of people who were pedaling,” Woods said.”That guy is a major player.”
Two drug units waited out the suspect for 12 hours on Sunday.
“I had two drug people who sat in the woods behind the house waiting on him to arrive from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Sunday,” Woods said. “They took water in with them but they hadn’t eaten since 8 o’clock in the morning when I brought them a biscuit.
“That tells you the dedication of my drug units.”
Armstrong was charged with three counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, one count of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, one count of second-degree possession of a controlled substance, and one count of second-degree trafficking controlled substance.
Woods put in time too from 6:30 Sunday morning until the arrest was wrapped up around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning.
“It’s doing what I said when I was campaigning and what I’ve tried to do,” he said. “We can treat the users but I have to cut off the supply. This was a big drug dealer.”
Armstrong is lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center.
