ANF seizes drugs worth Rs520m in 11 raids

Afghan route closure weighs on Pakistan-Central Asia trade, exports fall 9%, imports plunge 88%

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) captured 333 kgs of drugs including 300 kgs of Charas, 12 kgs of heroin and 20.4 kgs of opium during 11 raids carried out in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Lahore, Faisalabad and Mardan.
The force also arrested 16 peddlers and seized nine vehicles. Value of the recovered drugs is said to be Rs520 million in the International Market.
According to details, ion Lahore, the ANF intercepted a Toyota Corolla Car (GF-941-ICT) near Babu Sabu Motorway Interchange and upon search recovered 272.4 kgs of Charas and 20.4 kgs of opium from it. The force arrested a drug smuggler Razi Gull s/o Abdul Hameed Khan r/o Peshawar.
In another raid near Doctors Hospital, the ANF intercepted a Toyota Vitz Car (BC-2996-Peshawar) on Canal Road and recovered 22.8 kgs Charas from it.
Two drug smugglers Zahid Nadeem Khan s/o Haji Azeem Khan r/o Karachi and Sajid Mehmood s/o Jalal Khan r/o Kohat were arrested from the spot.
In yet another raid carried out near Abdullah Travels Bus Stand on Band Road, the force captured a motorcyclist identified as Yasir Rashid s/o Rashid Ahmed r/o Lahore along with 1.8 kgs of Charas.
In Faisalabad, the ANF intercepted a motorcycle (FDO-11-2679) near Dinga Pull Railway Phatak at Sidhar Bypass and arrested two drug peddlers – Waseem Abbas and Nadeem Abbas s/o Gulzar Muhammad along with 2.2 kgs of heroin.
Meanwhile, the ANF arrested Naqaash Haider s/o Ghulam Haider r/o Faisalabad and recovered 1.1 kgs of heroin from his possession. The peddler was arrested near Rafhan Mills on Samundari Road while riding a motorcycle (FDR-13-9652).
In Peshawar acting on a tip-off, the ANF arrested five drug smugglers identified as Muzaffar Iqbal s/o Muhammad Akbar, Muhammad Shafqat s/o Muhammad Amin, Muhammad Ejaz s/o Muhammad Amin, and Lal Said s/o Pervez and Gohar Khan s/o Shah Hamid. They all were caught red handed while delivering drugs consignment. The force seized 1-kg of charas from their possession. The ANF also IMPOUNDED two cars including Toyota Corolla XLI (LED-4359) and a Suzuki Mehran (HC-8998).
In another raid conducted at Peshawar Airport, the force arrested a passenger Nasir Khan s/o Mir Muhammad Khan r/o Kurram Agency with 35 heroin filled capsules. The accused was boarding Shaheen Airline Flight NL-756 for Abu Dhabi.
In Jhelum, the force apprehended Mehmood Khan s/o Muhammad Afsar Khan s/o Abbotabad and recovered 2 kgs of Charas from his possession. The ANF conducted the raid near Dina Bus Stop on GT Road.
Similarly the ANF detained a passenger Wakeel Adnan s/o Rao Saleem Muhammad Khan r/o District Hafizabad at Benazir International Airport and recovered 1.2 kgs of heroin tactfully concealed in his shoes. He was trying to board Dubai-bound PIA Flight PK-219.
In another such occurrence, the ANF Rawalpindi intercepted a Toyota Corolla Car (Applied For) near Iqbal Shaheed Toll Plaza on GT Road in Attock and recovered 2 kgs of heroin. Drug smuggler Faisal Khan s/o Umair Khan r/o Attock was arrested on the spot.
In another raid near Burhan Motorway Interchange in Attock, the ANF seized a Toyota Corolla Car (LES-975) and recovered 5 kgs of heroin from it. However, two drug peddlers succeeded in escaping from the scene.
