KARACHI: In a bid to save marine species and Ozone Layer, the Ministry of Climate Change and Web-based One Customs (WeBOC) would soon go online to check import of gases and other substances that affect the environment, it is learnt.
At present, the Ministry of Climate Change issues a formal letter of 100 percent quota to the importer for GDs. However, the quota happens to be over crossed by the importers.
But, after the better working relationship and automation system, the percents of quota of the importers would be made available on WeBOC that would help save the environment with the Global Warnings alerts, sources told Customs Today.
The WeBOC would check the 100 percent quota share given to the importers from January to December every year so that no importer could go in excess to his quota, sources added.
The said move is the continuation of Montreal Protocol that was introduced in 1987 in consequences of Vienna Convention of the United Nations for protection of Ozone layer.
Pakistan is signatory to the protocol which obliges all signatories to phase out a list of substances which are depleting the Ozone Layer. In this regard earlier the training activities were held in DGTR as part of national effort from 2004 to 2008 under RMP (Refrigerant Management plan) to create awareness on the initial phase out schedule for the ozone depleting substances (ODS) like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and allied materials.
