95 lawmakers shy of paying tax during FY 2014-15

ISLAMABAD: At least 95 members of the national and  provincial assemblies and Senate have paid minor taxes during the fiscal year 2014-15.

Sources informed Customs Today that 10 members of the National Assembly and 16 Senators did not pay any tax. At provincial level, at least 31 members of the  Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Assembly also fell in the category of non-taxpayers as they stayed away from paying tax during the year.

Following the suit, 28 member of the  Punjab Assembly did not pay any tax, while  eight members of the Sindh Assembly and two members of the Balochistan Assembly also included in the list of non-taxpayers.

The sources said that 28 members of KPK, which made 52 percent of the total members, have submitted less than Rs 1,000 tax.  On the other hand, 32 members of the Punjab Assembly have paid less than Rs 1000 tax.

They also added that Rs 20,294 average tax was paid by the members of the Punjab Assembly, Rs 52,117 average tax was paid by the legislator of Sindh and Rs 52,700 by the Balochistan Assembly members.
