Singapore authorities seize drugs worth S$80,000

SINGAPORE: Authorities have seized about S$80,000 worth of drugs from a Malaysia-registered taxi at Woodlands Checkpoint, said the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau in a joint news release here the other day.

At about 5pm on Monday, ICA officers uncovered three bundles of heroin from under the driver’s seat in the taxi. The 52-year-old taxi driver and his three passengers – a 25-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and a 56-year-old woman – were referred to CNB for further investigations. They are all Malaysians.

Later, three Singaporean men – a 29-year-old, a 43-year-old and a 48-year-old – were arrested for being suspected traffickers. They were believed to be the intended recipients of the drugs. Another Singaporean man, a 54-year-old suspected drug abuser, was also arrested.

Authorities said the seized bundles contained 1.1kg of heroin. A small amount of cannabis, Ice and cash worth more than S$9,900, were also seized.

They said investigations on all suspects are ongoing, and that under the Misuse of Drugs Act, trafficking of more than 15g of diamorphine or pure heroin, is punishable by death.
