SINGAPORE: Authorities have seized about S$80,000 worth of drugs from a Malaysia-registered taxi at Woodlands Checkpoint, said the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau in a joint news release here the other day.
At about 5pm on Monday, ICA officers uncovered three bundles of heroin from under the driver’s seat in the taxi. The 52-year-old taxi driver and his three passengers – a 25-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and a 56-year-old woman – were referred to CNB for further investigations. They are all Malaysians.
Later, three Singaporean men – a 29-year-old, a 43-year-old and a 48-year-old – were arrested for being suspected traffickers. They were believed to be the intended recipients of the drugs. Another Singaporean man, a 54-year-old suspected drug abuser, was also arrested.
Authorities said the seized bundles contained 1.1kg of heroin. A small amount of cannabis, Ice and cash worth more than S$9,900, were also seized.
