KARACHI: The hearing of the tax evasion case against Q-Mobile and its authorized dealers including M/s Digicom (Pvt) Limited and M/s New Allied Electronics is scheduled to be held in the office of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I, today (Sept, 22).
According to details, the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I had served show-cause notices to M/s Digicom (Pvt) Limited, M/s New Allied Electronics (the authorized dealers of Q-Mobile) in its alleged involvement of tax evasion of Rs 772 million in terms of Sales Tax.
The Collectorate of Customs (Multan) had forwarded the Contravention/Seizure report to the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I, Karachi in which it stated that the M/s Digicom and M/s New Allied Electronics had not paid Sales Tax of Rs 772 million on import of total 2,410,560 mobiles out of which 900 mobile phones were seized by the Collectorate of Customs Multan while remaining 2409660 mobile sets were not yet seized by the authorities concerned.
The Seizure Report further stated that the M/s Digicom (Pvt) Limited and New Allied Electronics have submitted short tax in terms of Sales Tax on the import of smartphones.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Customs authorities were of the view that the Chinese cellular company did not deposit the full Sales Tax on the import of cell phones that was Rs 500 per set. However, the importers M/s Digicom Pvt Limited and M/s New Allied Electronics had submitted Rs 250 on the import of per smartphone.
