ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a show cause notice to the finance secretary and summoned him on October 9.

The court has asked the finance secretary to explain as to why a contempt of court proceeding should not be started against him for the non-issuance of notification relating to the 20 per cent allowance given to all the employees of the federation.

The ministry of finance took the stance in the court that giving allowance to all the employees would be additional burden to the exchequer amounting to Rs50 billion.

Justice Shaukat then enquired how was it possible that the prime minister’s announcement benefits some employees while the remaining left deprived?

It may be recalled that an announcement relating to giving allowance to some federation employees including the cabinet division and senate secretariat was made and in the backdrop of this announcement IHC during its last hearing had directed that the notification for giving 20 per cent allowance to all the federation employees be issued and its copy be presented in the court.
