Customs hands over seized iPhones to PIA crew

LAHORE: The Customs Collectorate Preventive has decided to hand over imported mobile phones seized by collectorate from the PIA crew after receiving liable duties.

Sources from customs claimed that the mobile phones were the property of many people rather than any individual. They said that FIR could not be lodged against the accused because they did not violate the Customs Act.

Sources also told that the worth of the mobiles is almost Rs 2.2 million on which liable duty is Rs 0.25 million.

It is important to mention that customs authorities had cleared PIA pilot and officials after a seven-hour long inquiry. They said that reconciliatory dialogues were held between Customs Additional Collector Mubashar Baig and PIA Station Manager. The customs authorities on a tip-off raided PIA flight arrived from London. They said that customs authorities upon search of the flight recovered 40 mobile phones and 5,000 pounds from plane’s captain Amir Hashmi. The customs official were investigating further from the plane’s captain and other officials.
