Malaysia police seize 172kg drugs worth RM522,000

ALOR STAR: Police have crippled a major drug syndicate, seizing 172kg of drugs believed to be ganja worth RM522,000 in three separate raids between Sunday and Monday.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department deputy-director Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said acting on a tip-off, a team of Bukit Aman Police aided by the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) swooped in on Bukit Kayu Hitam and Sungai Petani, near here, and Bayan Lepas in Penang. Dzuraidi said the first seizure took place at a checkpoint at Bukit Kayu Hitam and police picked up three men and seized 51kg of drugs in a Nissan Sentra at about 8.40pm on Sunday.

“The second raid was conducted at Laguna Merbok in Sungai Petani and police seized 35kg of drugs and 159 drug pills inside a Mitsubishi Triton. “Police also picked up three men, including the drug ring’s mastermind and a foreign woman on Monday,” he said in a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters here today. Dzuraidi said during the third raid, police seized 86kg of drugs and nabbed a man in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

The case was being investigated under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence.
