KARACHI: Customs authorities unearthed a conspiracy to import used computers through mis-declaration at Port Qasim. Sources said that these computers were cleared after showing less value and mis-declaration.
Sources told CustomsToday that majority of these used computers consignment were cleared after mentioning “One Lot” on the consignment. This practice worried importers who used to import computer after adopting legal channels.
It is pertinent to mention here, that according to customs guidelines value of imported computer is $18 per unit, while $1.50 value is LCD per inch, while value of 19 inch LCD is $18.50. But authorities says that used computers and LCD were cleared only in $28 instaed of $46.50 per unit. This cause millions of dollars loss to national kitty.
