Turkish scrap import prices rise further to $238/ton

ANKARA: Turkish HMS 1/2 80:20 scrap import average prices (CFR Iskenderun Port, Turkey) rose further week-on-week to $238 a ton in the week ended August 14, as per the latest figures from the Steel Index.

According to TSI, the daily benchmark index for deep-sea Turkish imports of HMS #1&2 80:20 gained $3 a ton from last Friday to end the week at $239 a ton CFR Iskenderun port.

A number of cargoes were booked from US, Europe and Baltic suppliers, with prices in the range of $236-$240 a ton.

There are differing opinions as to the direction of pricing going forward, with some putting the short term ceiling at $240 a ton, whilst others feel this will be topped in the coming days and weeks.
