Seizure of smart phones: Collector Adjudication issues show cause notice to suspect

ISLAMABAD:  The MCC Adjudication has issued show cause notices to all the suspects who fled away from Benazir Bhutto International Airport after leaving behind a bag full of smart phones.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi Shahid Jan received a credible information that attempts are being made to smuggle smart phones via Emirates Airline flight No. EK-614, and Qatar Airlines flight No. QR-630.

After receiving the tip, Shahid Jan immediately ordered his staff to thoroughly scrutinize the baggage of all passengers who travelled through these flights. During checking process, it was come to the notice of Customs staff that seven bags are  left near Belt No. 1 and no one bother to claim their ownership.

When Customs staff opened the bags they found huge quantity of smart phones, including Samsung, Nokia, ATT, Motorola, Samsung mini, LG smart phone. All the seized mobile phone were without accessories.

In the show cause notice Customs Adjudication asked accused persons to present themselves before Adjudication and prove regarding possession and import of smart phones otherwise stern action will be taken against them.
