TUCSON: Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a male Mexican national into custody for an attempt to allegedly smuggle a combined 22 pounds of methamphetamine and cocaine through the Port of Nogales.
Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing arrested Manuel DeJesus Sanchez-Beltran, 44, of Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the Nissan Altima he was driving. During a secondary search of the vehicle, officers found more than six pounds of methamphetamine, valued at nearly $19,000, and almost 16 pounds of cocaine worth close to $166,000.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicle, and referred Sanchez to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
