TOKYO: Tokyo stocks rose on Thursday morning as buoyancy in European and U.S. stocks overnight boosted sentiment, albeit with gains limited as investors awaited the outcome of a Federal Reserve policy meeting ending later in the day that could mark the start of U.S. interest rate normalization.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 152.07 points, or 0.84 percent, from Wednesday to end the morning at 18,323.67. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 9.02 points, or 0.61 percent, at 1,481.62.
