Hydel power generation rises to record 6,884MW

LAHORE: The hydel power generation in Pakistan has increased to 6,884MW during the peak hours beating the previous record of 6,813MW set on Sept 14, 2013.

According to a Wapda official statement, better hydrological conditions and increased indent for release of water made the record possible.

The historic hydel generation on Tuesday registered an increase of about 2,000MW as compared to 4,892MW during the corresponding day last year.

As per details, the Tarbela hydel power station generated 3,598MW against its installed capacity of 3,478MW, Ghazi Barotha hydel power station generated 1,450MW and Mangla hydel power station generated 1,115MW against its installed capacity of 1,000MW.

Rest of the electricity was contributed by other hydel power stations including Warsak, Chashma and Jinnah. The hydel power generation capacity stands at 6,902MW — about one-third of the total installed capacity in the country.
