Weekly inflation rises 0.57 percent

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation increased by 0.57 percent during the week ended on October 08, 2026, for the combined consumption group, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported here on Friday.

According to PBS data, the SPI for the week under review rose to 372.58 points from 370.46 points recorded in the previous week. On a year-on-year basis, the SPI increased by 11.97 percent.

The weekly SPI, with base year 2015-16=100, covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.

The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) increased by 0.52 percent to 356.56 points from 354.73.

Likewise, the SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,733–22,888, Rs 22,889–29,517, Rs 29,518–44,175 and above Rs 44,175 increased by 0.54 percent, 0.53 percent, 0.57 percent and 0.60 percent respectively.

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 20 items (39.22 percent) increased, 06 items (11.76 percent) decreased, while 25 items (49.02 percent) remained unchanged.

On a week-on-week basis, the items that witnessed an increase in prices included wheat flour (5.69%), chicken (4.93%), pulse gram (3.99%), petrol & tomatoes (2.40%) each, pulse masoor (1.29%), tea prepared (1.08%), cooked daal (0.98%), pulse mash (0.91%) and LPG (0.57%).

On the other hand, decrease was observed in the prices of bananas (2.81%), diesel (1.37%), potatoes (0.89%), sugar (0.37%), gur (0.19%) and pulse moong (0.03%).

On year-on-year basis, major increase is observed in the prices of onions (100.24%), LPG (68.55%), electricity for Q1 (58.59%), petrol (47.52%), diesel (42.52%), wheat flour (32.60%), chilies powder (15.55%), mutton (15.02 %), beef (12.60%), chicken (9.44%), bread plain (8.99%) and curd (8.08%).

On the other hand, decrease was observed in the prices of potatoes (39.51%), tomatoes (37.07%), sugar (22.44%), eggs (18.88%), salt powder (14.81%), pulse masoor (9.79%), gur (8.59%) and pulse moong (8.37%).
