MANILA: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has confiscated 259 pieces or 2.1 kilos of assorted jewelries amounting to P15 million from a Filipina traveler at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 3 last Saturday night, September 19, 2015.
NAIA customs District Collector Edgar Macabeo said the courier, Rosemarie Clemente from Tandang Sora, Quezon City, did not declare the necklaces, bracelets, earrings and others inlaid with diamonds, pearls and precious stones with tags that were hidden in her hand carry trolley.
Prior to the confiscation, Macabeo said the NAIA customs received an information that the courier was on board at Tiger Air with flight number DG 7833 from Hong Kong that will arrive 11:20PM Saturday.
Clemente has one check-in luggage with two hand carry when she arrived Saturday.
For her part, Clemente, said that she only went to Hong Kong to meet her fiancé.
While at the Hong Kong airport, she met Lydia Cheung who asked her to bring the trolley bag containing jewelry back to Manila.
Clemente said that Cheung allegedly instructed her to meet another person in Manila to turn over the trolley bag.
The suspect agreed on the promise that she will receive a cellphone in exchange for the favor.
The BOC will file charges against Clemente before the Pasay City Prosecutors Office while the jewelry has been placed at the BOC vault for safe keeping.
