JACKSONVILE: The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency says it has seized more than 126, 489 pounds of cocaine in the Caribbean Sea last year.
CBP said that the latest seizure occurred on Friday when it seized 1,190 pounds of cocaine during an operation that led to the arrest of three individuals by the US Coast Guard Cutter, Tahoma.
“Effectively detecting, monitoring and interdicting illicit traffickers involves close coordination with military and law enforcement partners,” said Director of National Air Security Operations Center – Jacksonville Robert Blanchard.
“We’re committed to securing America’s maritime borders and disrupting smuggling and other illegal activity before it reaches our shores.”
CBP said counter smuggling operations in the region are conducted as part of Operation Martillo that includes the participation of 15 Caribbean and Latin American countries working together to counter transnational organised crime and illicit trafficking.
