Rs 8m smuggling: Customs Court sends suspect to jail

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a 14-day judicial remand of the suspects who were arrested by the Customs Intelligence authorities Faisalabad.

According to details, Niaz Muhammad was arrested by the customs authorities last week. Earlier he was produced before the court where Customs Court accepted his physical remand of three days for investigation on request of investigation and prosecution team of Faisalabad Customs.

Customs Intelligence Faisalabad raided warehouse of Niaz Muhammad and found huge quantity of smuggled cloth. The Customs team also asked him to prove that these recovered items are legally imported but he could not present proper receipts and import record of the cloth.

Customs Faisalabad seized all the cloth and arrested him. According to data presented before the court by Customs authorities value of the smuggled clothes is Rs 8 million. Clothes are smuggled through KPK and Peshawar rout from Afghanistan and most of the cloth is Chinese and Korean origin.

The Customs authorities registered a case against suspect under Pakistan Customs Act 1969 and produced him before the court and asked for their physical remand which was approved by court.

The team of Customs investigation and prosecution after investigation presented him again to the court and said that investigation has completed so court can send them to jail on judicial trial.

Now the accused will be again presented before the court after fourteen days where further trial will be preceded.
