ANF foils bid to smuggle 50kg heroin to Malaysia

KARACHI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized 50kg fine quality heroin from a container at Karachi Sea Port.

Meanwhile, in three other operations at Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi, the ANF recovered 28.3kg charas and arrested three drug traffickers. The value of seized drugs in international market amounts to Rs334 million approximately.

As per details, ANF Karachi Sea Port Team, on a tipoff that a huge quantity of heroin was being smuggled through a container carrying tin packed food and beverages at Karachi Sea Port, imposed a high alert and all containers carrying suspicious stuff were put through strict security.

The search continued for seven days around-the-clock. At least, a container was spotted at International Container Terminal (ICT), which was carrying 1800 cartons of Nestle juice packs of 250ml and 1 litter. Out of 21,600 juice packs, 300 juice packs of 1 liter contained polythene sachet packets. The packs were waterproof and dipped inside the juice. The juice cartons were repeatedly wrapped with polythene to avoid dog sniffing.

A total of about 50.18kg fine quality heroin was recovered from the shipment. According to initial information, shipment was dispatched by two business parties from Lahore and Faisalabad and was destined for Malaysia. A few individuals are under interrogation and ANF teams are conducting operations to arrest the complete net at different locations.

Meanwhile, ANF Karachi raided a house situated at Ali Goth, Ibrahim Haideri, Malir and seized 25kg charas from the scene. Reportedly, the premises were being used as narcotics den. However, two offenders namely Saleem Khan and Ayaz Khan, both residents of District Mansehra fled from the scene.

ANF Rawalpindi apprehended two real brothers namely Muhammad Arif and Hikmat Khan, residents of Islamabad and recovered 1.1kg charas from their possession. They were taken into custody near a Grave Yard, Kuri Bus Stop, Rawalpindi City, while travelling on a motorcycle. Charas was concealed in a shopping bag. Motorcycle was also seized during the operation.

In Lahore, the ANF team arrested Irfan Khan and recovered 2.2kg charas from his possession. He was arrested from Abdullah Travels Bus Stand, Bund Road.
