Power breakdown disrupts work for 45 minutes at Customs House

KARACHI: A power breakdown brought all work at the main Custom building to a standstill for a full 45 minutes Saturday morning as the stand-by generators could not be fired due to technical reasons.

The power breakdown occurred at around 11:05 am at both the main building and the annex building that houses Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement-East. Though stand-by power supply from generator restored the power supply to building the power supply to the entire 12-floor main building remained suspended till exact 11:48 am. During the power breakdown, all work at all floors of the main building of the Custom House remained suspended.

CCTV monitoring room, canteen and the newly opened Custom Souvenir Shop on the same floor remained in dark during these long 45 minute. People were forced to climb stairs to scale the 12-floor building. Attempts to restore power supply to the building remained futile since stand-by generators remained suspended due to technical reasons.
