Finish exports to Russia, China fall 5% in Jan-Aug 2015

MOSCOW: The year’s second worst month-to-date saw a decline in Finnish exports abroad, especially to Russia and China. Nevertheless, from January to August 2015, the trade surplus stood at 240 million euros, compared with a deficit of almost 1.8 billion euros during the same period a year ago.

Exports in August 2015 increased over the previous August to Germany, Sweden and the US while they decreased to Russia and China.

Finnish exports fell 5 percent in August 2014 year-on-year, pushing the trade balance into deficit for the first time in five months, said Finnish Customs on Thursday.

According to Customs, the monthly trade deficit was 160 million euros.

On a positive note, from January to August 2015, the trade surplus stood at 240 million euros, compared with a deficit of almost 1.8 billion euros during the same period a year ago.

Exports in August fell particularly in the machinery industry, said Customs.

Exports to Germany, Sweden and the United States were up, while there was a decrease in exports to Russia and China.
